The book takes you through the process that a potential user needs to go through in order to become a user.
Listening to motivational speakers is just as effective as reading self development books. They just offer a different kind of knowledge.
Motivational speakers push you to chase your goals and motivate you to go harder. Self development books provide you with the ‘how’.
Over the past year I’ve developed an obsession with motivational videos and self-development books. The amount of knowledge I’ve gained from them is HUGE! By taking the lessons I’ve learnt from these books and videos, I’ve been able improve my life dramatically.
Possibly one of the most regular things that came out of my mouth growing up – “I hate books!”
I had no interest in them and why would I? I grew up with computers, Playstations, Ipods, all the fun stuff.
They had moving images, they flashed and they made sounds.
Books! Books were boring.
I had to pay attention. They didn’t make cool noises and no one ever spoke about the recent books they read.
I now know how stupid this was of me.
The amount of stuff I’ve learnt just from reading books would be close to the amount of stuff I learnt at school but with one difference. I actually regularly use the stuff I read in books. Particularly Biographies.
Biographies allow you to read about your idols, learn from their mistakes and their successes and apply it to your own life. School textbooks teach you the definition of words and maybe how to do maths (If you paid attention).
Going through the process this year of developing a new start-up, I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve used the knowledge I gained from any particular book and applied it to my own experiences.
While it’s a little outdated, the book has shown me one thing, that I may as well delete all my social accounts and start again!!!
I’ve changed our entire social media strategies just from reading this book and we can see improvements.
Reading books should be a MUST for anyone looking to improve themselves. Here’s a list of my favourites:
- Creativity, Inc by Ed Catmull
- Hooked by Nir Eyal
- Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance
- Think and Grow Right by Napoleon Hill
I think everyone should spend at least half an hour before they go to bed reading. This doesn’t include reading friends status updates on Facebook. This means reading a book that’s actually going to better you in some way.
(It also doesn’t include celebrity magazines)
