New Year With A Day Off

I had the 1st day of 2018 set up to be a day off.

I wrote 2 articles yesterday to make up for it.

I made all my social media posts for both myself and OAKTRAV, and scheduled them to post throughout the day. I did all my daily to-do’s and even did double to make up for today.

But today, admittedly while I was at the beach, I asked myself ‘what the fuck I was doing?’

How could I start the New Year with a day off? The year that’s meant to be for GROWTH and I want to spend the very first day having it off. I can’t justify jeopardising all that momentum because ‘it’s the New Year’.

Not to mention the fact that I love writing.

The guilt washed over me and I just couldn’t resist.

So here I am and I want to ask you a question.

How did you spend your first day of 2018?

I spent half relaxing, regretted it and then spent the second half making up for the first half.

Which brings me back to one of my older posts. Your goals have no idea what holiday it is and couldn’t care less if you want a day off. No matter how much you think you deserve a day off and no matter how hard you’ve BEEN working, your goals won’t let you have a day off.

I also want to point out something else.

I hate New Years Resolutions and for those who’ve been reading my articles recently, you’ll know this.

The reason?

If you can put off your goal for a specific day, then you don’t really want it. I also believe their made without heart or a plan. People feel they need one because everyone else has one.

BUT, I know some people have still picked one and for those, I want to ask another question.

How badly do you actually want it?

If you spent to day celebrating/partying/relaxing.

How badly do you actually want your goals?

If you’ve justified having tthe day off by saying ‘I’ll start tomorrow’. The answer is you don’t really want it.

Tomorrow never comes.

The good news is it’s not to late to start and I want you to start today. Find one small task that will get you closer to your goals and do it RIGHT NOW!

  1. I like the system you laid out in this article. It’s very thorough. I do quarterly major goal revisions, with weekly planning and daily planning to make sure I stay on target. I haven’t seen your method of doing this before. It’s interesting. I took mine from Zig Ziglar’s Born to Win course. The method is immaterial – doing the planning, writing the goals down, and doing the work are the most important things. Nice article.

      Zig Ziglar is one of my favourite (or was) Motivational Speakers.
      I think the processes are generally the same they just differ slightly. All will get you where you want to go.
